Ancient house in Milan

Cristina Colla Atelier, studio architettura interior design Alessandria

Project by Cristina Colla Atelier
Architects Cristina Colla and Mario Guano

“The house, downtown Milan, is on two floors and includes an attic with terrace. The corridor connects the two opposite sides of the apartment; on one hand the living area with the kitchen, the living heart of the house, and the mezzanine with the children’s bedrooms; on the other, the studio next to the living room with a large fireplace.
The sleeping area in the main building and has not been touched in the intervention of restructuring.
We made the kitchen (Easy model by Elmar) in opaque and white acrylic Nikron.
The table and chairs are by Knoll, and many vintage pieces that are part of the furniture of the family.”

The furniture is provided by Colla Arredi.

Details

Everything in this house perfectly represents the personality of the owners. The style, colours and furnishings reflect the people who live in it.
We are in the center of Milan, in a period house, but here little resembles the classic Milanese apartment and this reflects the origins of the owners, whose passions and preferences can be found in the smallest details that compose this project.
An example is the live wrought iron floor, which changes with time depending on the areas where you walk the most.
In developing this project we have also created new spaces by harmonizing the relationship between pre-existing elements, such as the staircase with an old iron railing, and new furniture, such as the furniture placed underneath.

The Change

The intervention of the Atelier was requested in particular to relocate “the heart of the house”. This apartment is in continuous change and follows the development dynamics of the family that lives in it. As the family expands, needs change and living spaces change. So the Atelier’s intervention has allowed the transformation of the kitchen environment, a warm, serene, living space where you can spend time with your family and your closest friends.
